Captain Hendrix salvages one point for PSV in Kerkrade
Eredivisie champions PSV dominated the game against Roda JC in Kerkrade on Wednesday evening but were held to a 2-2 draw.
Phillip Cocu made six changes from the team that clinched the title following a 3-0 win over Ajax. De Jong, Zoet, Van Ginkel, Arias, Isimat and Pereiro did not feature for PSV due to injuries or because they were rested.
PSV took control of the game soon and started many moves. They created chances but failed to take them.
Gyliano van Velzen found Jannes Vansteenkiste, who fired past Eloy Room to give the hosts the lead on 29 minutes, against the run of play.
PSV responded quickly as Hirving Lozano netted an equaliser just three minutes later. The Mexican cut into the box before unleashing a shot that sailed past Hidde Jurjus into the top of the net, taking his goalscoring tally for the season to sixteen: 1-1.
PSV survived a scary moment five minutes into the second half when a Mikhail Rosheuvel thunderbolt rattled back off the bar. Phillip Cocu’s men started to press but the home side took the lead once again on 65 minutes, out of the blue,
Simon Gustafson beat Eloy Room with a shot from twenty yards out: 2-1. PSV went in search of an equaliser and got what they wanted five minutes from time.
Jorrit Hendrix, who wore the captain’s armband for the first time in his career, put PSV back on level terms five minutes from the end, The midfielder unleashed a piledriver from 30 yards out that fizzed past Hidde Jurjus: 2-2.
