Lozano and Locadia bag braces in 4-2 win over Vitesse
PSV head coach Phillip Cocu has guided his team to a victory over Vitesse in Arnhem on his birthday for the second season in a row. Hirving Lozano and Jürgen Locadia each bagged a brace in the GelreDome to secure a 4-2 win.
18 minutes were on the clock when PSV deservedly took the lead. Joshua Brenet slipped a wonderful through ball to Hirving Lozano who scored the opener with an accomplished left-foot finish: 0-1.
It was the Mexican’s seventh strike in eight Eredivisie appearance, an unprecedented feat that no Dutch player has ever accomplished before.
PSV had great chances to double the lead. Gaston Pereiro had a shot blocked. Luuk de Jong saw his rebound cleared off the line and Daniel Schwaab sent a free header just wide of the post.
Against the run of play, Vitesse were back on level terms second before the half-time whistle was blown. Locadia was unlucky to flick on a corner and put the ball past his own goalkeeper. HT: 1-1.
Locadia wanted to make amends and was successful after just four minutes into the second half, when he added a touch of swerve in his 20-yard shot which flew past Vitesse keeper Remko Pasveer: 1-2.
Locadia rounded his marker before superbly curling the ball past Pasveer on 56 minutes and Lozano was at the end of a well-worked counter attack: 1-4.Substitute Mason Mount pulled a goal back for Vitesse on 62 minutes with a lovely first-time volley: 2-4.
PSV have taken their best start to the season since the 1999/2000 campaign. They are on top of the table with 27 points from ten games. Ajax are second, five points behind PSV.
