PSV claim Fortuna win in injury time
PSV claimed a last-gasp win over Fortuna Sittard on Saturday evening as an injury time goal gave them a 2-1 victory. Belgian midfielder Dante Rigo, who has risen through the PSV ranks, became a hero with a superbly well-placed shot.
Mark van Bommel stuck with the same line-up which saw off FC Utrecht. Fortuna Sittard made a lively start to the contest, sticking to a physical style of play and making plenty of tackles. PSV could not find their rhythm.
Van Bommel saw the club where he started his career create the first chance of the match. Vlijter was played clean through on three minutes but Jeroen Zoet kept his composure and made a vital stop.
PSV were gradually finding their feet and after Denzel Dumfries had had a header saved by Fortuna Sittard goalkeeper keeper Alexei Koselev, Hirving Lozano scored his second goal in as many matches on 33 minutes
Angeliño picked up a ball on the left wing, crossed and Hirving Lozano tapped home the rebound from close range after Koselev had kept the Mexican’s clever backheel: 0-1.
Mark van Bommel’s men looked dangerous going forward. Gaston Pereiro and Steven Bergwijn had chances to double the lead but did not take them. PSV were made to rue the missed chances as Andrija Novakovich slotted home an equaliser: 1-1.
PSV could not create any meaningful chances, although Luuk de Jong came close. PSV looked to be heading to a 1-1 draw when substitute Dante Rigo saved PSV’s blushes at the death, slotting in a low left-foot shot: 1-2.
