PSV lack luck in 1-2 defeat against Inter
PSV slipped to their second Group B defeat in the UEFA Champions League. Inter came from behind to register a 1-2 victory. Mark van Bommel's team lacked luck and sharpness in front of goal.
The two teams were evenly matched in an entertaining first half. There were decent chances at both ends as PSV as well as Inter worked hard to close down all spaces.
It was great end-to-end stuff before Pablo Rosario superbly opened the scoring on 27 minutes, unleashing a fantastic shot from twenty yards out, leaving Inter goalkeeper Handanovič with no chance:1-0.
The midfielder had come close to breaking the deadlock minutes before when Handanovič somehow saved his shot that had taken a deflection. Inter upped a gear, pushing forward in search of an equaliser.
Zoet kept PSV in the game with a string of fine saves. At the other end, Handanovič quickly left his line to stop Steven Bergwijn, using a hand out of the box. He was lucky to get only a yellow card.
It was all square at half-time after Radja Nainggolan had drawn Inter level in the 44th minute. Zoet saved Asamoah’s effort and Icardi had the rebound blocked before the Belgian midfielder smashed a low shot in the corner:1-1.
The visitors had the best chances in the second half, after Pereiro had hit the post. They took the lead on 60 minutes. D'Ambrosio played a long ball to Icardi. Schwaab collided with Zoet and the Argentinian striker put the ball into the empty net:1-2.
PSV threw men forward and gave their all in the remaining minutes of the game Substitute Donyell Malen delivered an acrobatic bicycle kick but Handanovič made a super save to deny him.
