PSV slip to their first defeat of the season
PSV slipped to their first defeat of the season against sc Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadion on Sunday afternoon. The hosts took a 2-0 lead within six minutes and Phillip Cocu’s men could not stage a second-half comeback.
With Bart Ramselaar getting the nod over Gaston Pereiro, PSV started badly at the Abe Lenstra Stadion in Friesland and the first half was only six minutes old when they were two goals down.
Four minutes were on the clock when Arber Zeneli unleashed a fierce long-range strike past PSV keeper Jeroen Zoet and barely two minutes later Denzel Dumfries squared for Reza Ghoochannejhad, who only had to tap home from close range.
PSV attempted to reduce the deficit and Jürgen Locadia had a half chance, but were reduced to ten men on 37 minutes when referee Kevin Blom showed Hirving Lozano a straight red card for a reckless challenge.
Ten-man PSV limited the damage after the break, and Zoet saved a penalty from Ghoochannejhad in the 74th minute. Substitute Luuk de Jong came close to netting a consolation goal but sc Heerenveen keeper Martin Hansen pushed his header away for a corner.
Gaston Pereiro replaced Steven Bergwijn with ten minutes remaining but the Uruguayan could not avert the defeat. PSV have nine points from four games and will host leaders Feyenoord next week Sunday.
